Get Involved in the Fight Against Lung Cancer

If you have been impacted by lung cancer or have seen the devastating effects it can have on individuals and their families, I urge you to consider getting involved. My personal experience with this disease has forever changed the course of my life. My mother, after battling with lung cancer for years, succumbed to atypical neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung – a very rare and difficult-to-treat form of the disease. Being a long-time smoker, she tried quitting countless times before the cancer took her away from my brothers and my father. Several years have passed since her passing, yet not a moment goes by without thinking about her and the way lung cancer robbed her of her precious life.

Devastating and relentless as it is, lung cancer continues to claim millions of lives each year. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and its impact extends far beyond just the individual diagnosed. Families, friends, and communities all suffer alongside the patient, and the emotional and financial toll can be immense.

We can work towards promoting awareness and support for lung cancer research, prevention, and treatment. This can be achieved through various avenues, such as joining or starting lung cancer awareness and advocacy clubs, participating in fundraising events, or participating in medical research projects focused on finding better treatment options and, ultimately, a cure.

To take involvement to an even further level, those who are capable can pursue a degree in a related field, such as medicine, public health, or biomedical research, directly contributing to the fight against lung cancer. Through your education and training, you can equip yourself with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this devastating disease.

In conclusion, if you have been impacted by lung cancer, whether through personal experience or witnessing its effects on loved ones, I encourage you to consider getting involved. Together, we can raise awareness, support research, and ultimately work towards a future where no one has to suffer the devastating consequences of this disease. Let us honor the memory of those we have lost and fight for a world where lung cancer is a thing of the past.

An organization I have had some involvement in over the years is the LUNGevity Foundation. I urge you to click the link below and find a chapter in your area.
